I’m well into my second week now and, so far, it’s lived up to every expectation. Buenos Aires was amazing – vibrant, colourful, diverse and very hot. Further south and it’s been a little cooler, particularly on the west when we spent a few days at the foot of the Andes. You may be surprised to hear that it hasn’t been all about the Malbec, but then again, I didn’t want to be rude!
Apart from city life, there has been a penguin reserve, a day walking the foothills of the Andes, and yes, I saw some condors. There has been asados (BBQs, to the uninitiated), and quite a bit of history and culture to enjoy. We even had the rare sighting of a real-life gaucho and, of course, some Argentine tango. The other people on the tour are wonderful. I am so pleased that I went through with the plan to go by myself. I was a bit nervous, as this was my first holiday as a solo traveler but there was nothing to worry about at all. We have all become great friends and are planning a little reunion when we get back.
