Macular Degeneration
Macular Degeneration is the greatest cause of legal blindness for over 50s. It is a preventable condition. Once you have it, there is no cure, however you can prevent it, as well as reduce and delay it worsening. Risk factors include age, family history, high blood pressure, obesity, high ultra-violet light exposure, high cholesterol and diet.
There are two types, dry (encompassing 90% of cases) and wet, a more serious version. Symptoms include vertical straight lines appearing wavy, blurry vision, blind spots and difficulty recognising faces.
